Infancy is the time span from the birth of the baby till the baby reaches an age of two years and all the health conditions that appear during this time is considered to ne infant health issues. There are several types of health issues that may arise in this time and they are listed below:
- Sleeping problem
Infant jaundice is very common in newborn babies that is caused by the sudden increase in the billirubin level of the baby and is characterized by the yellowish color of the eyes and the skin of the baby. This type of infant health issues is developed in the newborns because their liver functioning has not picked up after the few hours of their birth. It is the job of the liver to remove the billirubin through excretion but a failure of this function causes the accumulation and hence jaundice thereafter.
However the most challenging part of infant health issues and its care is helping the baby to fall asleep and stay asleep for a few hours. It is a normal behavior of the infant to sleep or drowse for about 16 hours a day. This is because the biological clock is not yet set to work properly and they are still in the final stages of development. After some months the babies generally develop the habit of sleeping for more hours during the night and they tend to stay awake during the day. Therefore practicing a routine for bedtime always helps to get this habit right and the sooner it is done the better because this will ensure that the baby gets enough sleep as well as the optimum amount of activities.
